Settling For The Right Garage Insurance

Oct 4th, 2011 Lawrence White

Garage insurance has been wrongly interpreted by many policy holders. Even professionals get confused as to the exact meaning. The garage liability policy provides security to a car dealer. This is also known as dealer's insurance. It is imperative that a garage owner or an automotive repair shop owner approaches the insurance provider who offers specific garage insurance.

Identifying the right insurance provider is important so that you do not face problems at a later date when you suffer a large loss and there is no one to help you out in such a situation.

A garage policy is a must have for businesses like auto repairers, body shops, used car dealers and so on. The symbols shown in the policy decide the type of operations the individual is into. If the business has to down with automotive and spare parts or repairs, then the policy would mention the specific symbols and you would be adequately covered in the event of any liability loss.

How can one identify whether the correct symbols have been incorporated in the form? Just go through the first page of the garage policy. The digits twenty one to thirty one would describe the policy and the coverage would be mentioned correspondingly. Symbol twenty one stands for any vehicle or auto. Symbol Twenty-two is for all owned autos.

Symbol twenty three is symbolic of all owned private passenger vehicles only. Symbol twenty eight is symbolic of hired or rented autos or vehicles. Symbol twenty five is symbolic of owned vehicles with no fault laws. Symbolic twenty nine stands for vehicles or autos that are not owned but are used for garage business. Symbol thirty stands for vehicles which are left in the garage for repair, storage or for service. Symbol thirty one stands for autos on consignment.

Symbol twenty-one is the most widely used coverage as it broadly covers everything. Hence, ignoring to buy garage insurance would prove to be costly, considering the number of autos or vehicles stationed in the garage.

It is advised that you go through the insurance policy carefully and reassess the symbols and the coverage offered. The coverage should be in line with your line of work or business. If you are not quite sure or confident about this, then you need to get in touch with a professional or an agent who understands and deals with garage policies. Check out for agents who deal in dealers insurance, auto repair insurance or shop insurance. Leaving the policy to the understanding of the agent who is not aware of the policy may not be a wise decision.

It should be noted that garage insurance does not provide coverage for liability which is not directly related to the vehicle or the garage. Garage owners need to decide whether they intend purchasing a policy for auto dealers liability. Dealerships having their outlets at many places should select the right coverage limits so that the policy covers storage at different lots.
